This series is getting me to think about what is compelling in a dungeon story. I find that I want it to have a sense of history, a sense of geometry, a sense of having been built by someone, for some purpose, at some point in time. And I want all of this information to be mostly hidden, revealed only incompletely and obliquely. This volume, particularly the chapter that takes place in a painting from the dungeon’s past, seems to promise that much more of that gradual revelation is prepared and is yet to come.
